This is a great pathway for students wanting to enter the health care sector to obtain employment whilst furthering your studies after school in your chosen health care field.

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Education Centre (ANMEC) has partnered with leading providers in the aged care industry to deliver a contemporary Certificate III in Individual Support that embeds the philosophy of empowering older people. The training uses evidence-based practice to support the principles of a person-centred approach and engages learners to deliver care that places the client at the centre of service with inclusive decision- making and informed client choices about activities of daily living.

ANMEC offers the Ageing specialisation

The Aged Care and Home Care sectors desperately need workers as over 200,000 Aged Care workers are due to retire in the next 15 years (Aged Care Workforce Final Report 2012 DoHA).

To enter the Health Care workforce, you will need to study one of the following certificates:

  • CHC330021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing)

ANMEC can provide the skills and knowledge that you need through the following delivery option:
12 month course part time – Delivered at ANMEC, comprising of classroom, online learning and workplace practice. This program is a VET in School program, where students complete it as part of the SACE year 11 and 12 points.

Structured Work Placement

Students undertake a minimum of 120 hours of work placement. At ANMEC, these are conducted in 1 or 2 week blocks during school holidays.

Funding Criteria
  • Must be turning 16 in the year of study
  • Australian Citizen, permanent resident or eligible VISA holder
  • Must not have exhausted personal allocation of government funding
Subsidised Training

The Certificate III in Individual Support is subsidised under the Government of South Australia's Subsidised Training initiative and is available for eligible students.

Course Cost

$460 rest of course is subsidised under the Government of South Australia's Subsidised Training Initiative.

Pre-Course Experiences/Pre-requisites
No pre-requisites to study this qualification, however suitable students:
  • In year 11 or 12
  • Must be turning at least 16 in the year of study
  • Have a passion for being part of the Health Service Industry
  • Attended orientation sessions in Term 4 2024
Course Requirements
  • An appointment with the VET Coordinator or Counsellor in your school is required to enrol in this course
  • National Police Clearance (National Crime Check) and relevant DHS Clearances (at students own expense)

Qualifications & skills covered
This qualification reflects the role of care workers in residential aged care, home & community workforce who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people.

This course delivered by health care leaders, will ensure that you receive current industry knowledge & skills to prepare you for the role of a care worker in the health care sector.

You will experience first hand the practical teaching of skills & knowledge required to be successful in your chosen health care career & feel confident on placement to practice these skills when providing care.
Course completion requirements:

  • CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing)
    • 15 units must be completed - 9 core units and 6 elective units
    • Students must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency

Note: Students who successfully complete only one or more units of competency but not the full Qualification are eligible to receive a Statement of Attainment.
